Ways to Repurpose Video Content

I’ve seen it time and time again. Someone spends money or time to create an awesome video about their brand or business, they post it online, and a week later it’s old news. Online videos should never be post and forget it type of content, and there are dozens of ways that a video can be reused and repurposed. Below are some of my favorite ways to get the most out of your video to start building a video marketing strategy.

Event Videos:

Event videos are a great way to show off an event that has been months, or even years, in the making. Event video’s can be created for a number of reasons, from sharing information about the event, to promoting future events and providing viewers with more information. Below are a few ways that a single event video can be reused and repurposed over weeks, months, and years.

  1. Share after the event on social media to recap the event

  2. Share in an email to thank sponsors and attendees

  3. Use the video to promote future events, especially if your event is recurring

  4. Post on your website and social media with a description that provide viewers with more info about the event

Branding videos (also marketing videos)

Branding or marketing videos are a fantastic way to show people what you’re all about. These types of videos are often posted on social media and hosted on websites, but don’t be afraid to share them more than once. Below are multiple ways that you can keep your brand’s video on top of the news feeds, and top of mind for your audience.

  1. Post your video on Facebook, but don’t be afraid to share the video again every few months with a reminder to check out the video and a relevant call to action.

  2. Share on Instagram. You can share your video as a post, share parts of it in your story, or even post it on IGTV.

  3. Put your video front and center on website (or page where marketing vid would be appropriate)

  4. Share your video on LinkedIn

  5. Send out your video in email newsletters

  6. Place your video in welcome emails to new or prospective clients

  7. Re-share throughout the year or when there’s an influx of new followers on an account

  8. Run the video as an ad on social media to promote the business or service featured

Educational Videos:

Educational videos are a great way to, well, educate people! Educational videos differ from a traditional brand video, because they give more of a deep dive into a subject and provide more information.

  1. As always, share your video on social media! Make sure your posts are timely and relevant to the information your providing.

  2. Add videos to special pages on your website.

  3. Put your videos on YouTube. YouTube is the #2 search engine in the world, ranked right behind Google, and people are ALWAYS searching YouTube for educational content and information. If you have multiple videos, try creating a YouTube playlist for educating employees, clients, or anyone!

  4. Try sending out your video in an email or newsletter

  5. Incorporate your video into a blog post! If your company or website doesn’t have a blog feature, just write a post on LinkedIn

There are so many ways that a video can be used throughout the year. Adding video into your content calendar is an easy way to make sure it gets repurposed and seen by as many eyes as possible. Always talk with your video creator about your goals for your video and how you intend to use it.
My number one tip for sharing your video and making sure it gets all the views it can, is to encourage people to share your video. It can be friends, family, employees, customers, whoever. Some companies run contests and offer incentives for people who share, comment, or otherwise engage with their posts online. So spread the word and share your video with everyone you can!

BONUS: see about getting a few different versions made with different titles and slates to use for different purposes

BONUS: ask your video creator for ‘social media cuts’ of your video, or shorter versions that could be posted easily on Instagram or Facebook

BONUS: schedule filming of multiple videos at once, it will save you money and you’ll get extra content to share

BONUS: share on different accounts, ask friends, followers, etc. to share your video to reach more viewers
